Welcome to Divine Mercy Catholic Academy’s elementary level. When students move “upstairs,” they leave behind their early childhood years and enter into a time of preparation for middle school. The shift away from learning to read toward reading to learn takes place at the elementary level. It’s an exciting time that introduces new concepts and new understandings.
There is a special spirit among our level which motivates students and teachers to be genuinely engaged and to build life-long relationships. We believe that productive learning occurs when children are purposefully involved in a constructive and supportive environment. Our dedicated faculty seeks to create a dynamic learning environment that accommodates and nurtures students in their various stages of development. Most importantly, our teachers build a rapport with each student, enabling every child to set the bar high for academic success.
Together our elementary school teachers have over a century of teaching experience, and each one of us strives to ensure that our program helps to maintain the school’s successful reputation. We consider all that we know about the elementary child and create a curriculum, schedule, and program which best meet the needs of this age. We promote student independence, collaboration, and ownership by teaching in small groups. While we endeavor to create a strong foundation in all academic areas by regularly introducing new concepts, we understand that not all students learn at the same pace. Our curriculum and schedule allow us to move students through material at a pace which best meets their personal learning styles.
We know that our world is constantly changing and becoming increasingly interconnected and complex, and we are charged with preparing students for future careers that may not exist today. We gladly accept the responsibility of fostering a learning environment in which our students know how to collaborate effectively, think critically, and express themselves clearly. The integration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) has long been a part of our practices. Our integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum provides our students the opportunity to explore and inquire, as our teachers guide them to understand more fully the world around them.
Divine Mercy’s community depends on a strong partnership between parents and the school. We value the vital role that parents play in supporting our mission. We invite our parents to share expertise in the classroom, volunteer on field trips or fundraisers, and encourage learning outside of school. In this way, we ensure a well-rounded education that empowers our young learners to achieve success and excellence now and in the years to come.
